Dove hunting in Mexico starts the latter part of August when Whitewing Dove season opens. For
prime Whitewing dove hunting, the state of Tamaulipas, located in northeastern Mexico,
is legendary. In recent years, this Mexican state initiated serious habitat
preservation and research measures. As a result, Whitewing dove hunting is again
returning to its glory days. Steve Lesikar, a long-time dove hunting fanatic,
said his 2001 dove hunt with Gage Outdoor Expeditions'
reminded him of his hunts in this region ten to 15 years ago and even rivaled
his dove hunts in Argentina.
The hunting day begins with hot coffee and fresh-squeezed orange juice
delivered to your well-appointed room. A hearty breakfast is served at the
main lodge where hunters are apraised of the days hunting activities.
At the field, your guide (one per hunter) escorts you to your shooting
position, which is already equipped with a comfortable shooting seat
and a cooler containing ice cold drinks. You'll wait in anticipation,
preparing for hundreds of thousands of doves to pour out of their roost
and fan out across the countryside, perhaps thousands into the field
you're gunning.
Worried about guns? Forget about it! We've got them — 20- and
12-gauge Berretas. Gone is the hassle and cost of bringing your guns
across the Mexican border. Our guns are expertly maintained and ready
for any dove hunter. Just don't forget your shooting pad!
"Gage Outdoor Expeditions is a professional
operation which we would recommend to anyone looking for great wing
shooting. We all agree — best driver, best food, best 'bird boys'
ever."
